Welcome to World History Class Mr. Slone 2005/2006 Basic Ideas to follow: -Respect others -Be on time-School Tardy/Absence Policy followed -Bring all necessary materials to classroom, I will not loan out pencil or book, etc. -No food or beverage -No hats! -NO UNEXCUSED LATE work accepted -Excessive tardies will be dealt with. -Unexcused absences will be dealt with.

COURSE OBJECTIVE COURSE OVERVIEW: This year long course examines the history of the modern world. Students will begin by studying the rise of democracy and western civilization, after which we will focus on major turning points in European history from the eighteenth century to the present. After this historical overview, students will examine a variety of geo-political regions, focusing on the interdependence and interaction of the various nations and peoples of the world. ** Some chapters will be dealt with more comprehensively than others. Time, subject matter, and interest will play an important role in the study of particular topics.

Academic Expectations Homework approximately 2 to 4 times a week. Need to bring book, notebook, writing utensil to class everyday. Text: World History: Patterns of Interaction, McDougal Littell, 1999.

Grading Scale Grading: Regular class attendance, completion of all work on time, participation in class discussions and mastery of the required material are essential for a student to receive a passing grade.

Extra Credit for World History Extra Credit (at teacher’s discretion) will be given for every unit covered in class. Extra Credit WILL benefit students at end of each marking period.
