Bar Graphs and Pictographs

Q: What is their purpose? When are they used?

Q: What is the difference between a bar graph and a pictograph?

Graphs don’t have to be boring to look at…

Some of my favorites come from the USA Today newspaper, because of their creativity and the information that they provide the reader

Bar Graphs

Questions to ponder… 1) What does this graph tell us?

Questions to ponder… 2) Report the population size in 1987.

Questions to ponder… 3) Analyze the graph to determine how many years it took the population size to double from 4 billion people.

Questions to ponder… 4) Predict when the population size will reach 10 billion people.

Pictographs

Questions to ponder… 1) Report how many millions of gallons of orange juice was sold in the U.S.

Questions to ponder… 2) Analyze the graph to determine an estimated amount of how many times more apple juice was sold than juice blends.

Questions to ponder… 3) Predict what would happen to the juice industry if Florida had a cold snap which damaged the orange crops.
