Presentation transcript:

Robert Davis & Starla Ledbetter, Co-Chairs Public Health Data Standards Consortium 2009 Annual Meeting

 Co-Chairs ◦ Starla Ledbetter ◦ Bob Davis  Purpose ◦ The Data Standards Committee coordinates data standards activities for the Consortium, which includes the work of the Health Care Services Data Reporting Guide and the Payer Typology Sub-Committees.

 Monitor activities at the National Uniform Billing Committee ◦ Primary Contacts  Marjorie Greenberg – Federal Perspective  Ginger Cox – State Perspective ◦ Alternate Contacts  Donna Pickett – Federal Perspective  Bob Davis – State Perspective ◦ Provide summary of activities, which is available on the Consortium Web Site.

 Monitor Activities at ANSI X12 ◦ Contacts  Ginger Cox  Missy Jamison  Michelle Williamson  Bob Davis ◦ Provide summary of activities, which is available on the Consortium Web Site.

 Current activities of interest at NUBC and ANSI X12 ◦ Implementation issues for Present on Admission Indicator ◦ Inclusion of a data element to capture the language of a patient ◦ Implementation issues for ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS

 Current activities of interest at NUBC and ANSI X12 ◦ Issues associated with the change in the standard to capture the Point of Origin of a patient as opposed to the Source of Admission of a patient. ◦ The inclusion of more clinical content in the standards to accommodate changes in billing practices to pay for quality rather than just for procedures performed.

 Looking for Volunteers to be Consortium Eyes and Ears at other organizations that set or affect the data standards that impact Public Health Reporting Systems.  The Data Standards Committee is the Consortium vehicle to share and disseminate that information.

 Serve as a resource for coordinating and reviewing other standards activities of the Consortium ◦ Overseeing calls to solicit comments to final HIPAA rules for ICD-10. ◦ Overseeing calls to solicit comments for HIT documents that are a product of the Consortium.

 Future Role for the Committee ◦ Open for input as to how the Data Standards Committee can continue to evolve to best serve the Consortium and the Public Health Community to advance the need for greater standardization.
