CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 SNECMA CTC WITHIN THE OEM ENVIRONMENT  The OEM environment SAFRAN Group -Aerospace Propulsion -Aircraft Equipment -Defense Security Snecma = aerospace propulsion engine manufacturer -Civil (50% of CFM56 engines) -Military -Rocket  Snecma Customer Training Center Civil engines EASA Part 147 approved Key figures

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 AGENDA  Snecma Customer Training Center (CTC) within the Original Engine Manufacturer (OEM) environment  Training quality at Snecma CTC Snecma CTC quality dash board Quality improvement Training material Introduction to the use of Digital Mock-Up (DMU)  DMU within Snecma training courses Examples Pluses / Minuses  Conclusion

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 TRAINING QUALITY AT SNECMA CTC  Snecma CTC quality dash board Our 14 quality criteria (chart shown to French civil aviation) Course Contents Instructor Training Media Facility General Assessment COURSE CONTENT 1 = Courses contents 2 = Pace 3 = Duration INSTRUCTOR 4 = Pedagogical level 5 = Knowledge level 6 = Language 7 = Relationship TRAINING MEDIA 8 = Documentation quality 9 = Presentation quality 10 = Doc. up-to-date FACILITY 11 = Engines quality 12 = Engines up-to-date 13 = Tools quality GEN. ASSESSMENT 14 = CTC quality Trainees’ Evaluation

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS Course Contents Instructor Training Media Facility General Assessment Trainees’ Evaluation TRAINING QUALITY AT SNECMA CTC CHOICE TRAINING MEDIA 8 = Documentation quality 9 = Presentation quality 10 = Doc. up-to-date COURSE CONTENTS  Action in progress. Subject not treated in this presentation.  Possible link with Training Media ?  Quality improvement The lowest 3 evaluation levels are taken into account

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 TRAINING QUALITY AT SNECMA CTC  Training material Process to select maintenance tasks - Instructor’s presentation - Training devices - Supports for trainees (CD, student’s guide, …) Learning Management System (LMS) Easy tracking. Well, what about the DMU ? Well, what about the DMU ? Training manual Selection of “pedagogical” tools

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 TRAINING QUALITY AT SNECMA CTC  Introduction to the use of Digital Mock-Up (DMU) DMU : mock-up designed with a Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. Snecma DMU Engineering departments Components manufacturers Partners Components manufacturers Engineering departments CATIA DMU Large file size ~ 5 to 10 Gb 3DViaComposer Training Center DMU Snecma Customer Training Center Lighter files (up to ~ 1 Gb) Re-engineering impossible  3D courses on 2D supports

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 TRAINING QUALITY AT SNECMA CTC  Introduction to the use of Digital Mock-Up (DMU) We are OEM. Why use a DMU ? -Because ! -To improve graphics and thus learning efficiency -3D views  better than 2D views -Engine unavailability for new programs -Easy do / undo / re-do changes -Easy update & tracking -Save time / drawings needs.

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 AGENDA  Snecma Customer Training Center (CTC) within the Original Engine Manufacturer (OEM) environment  Training quality at Snecma CTC Snecma CTC quality dash board Quality improvement Training material Introduction to the use of Digital Mock-Up (DMU)  DMU within Snecma training courses Examples Pluses / Minuses  Conclusion

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 DMU WITHIN SNECMA TRAINING COURSES  Examples Our vocation is not to present beautiful pictures, but to present accurate, efficient and high quality technical information. In house LMS with graphics and animations made with the DMU software -DemoDemo 3D animation to explain a maintenance task (outside our LMS) -Oil filter removalOil filter removal

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 DMU WITHIN SNECMA TRAINING COURSES  Mix of different graphic styles

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 DMU WITHIN SNECMA TRAINING COURSES  Pluses / Minuses Pluses -Easy-to-use software even for non-CAD users, -Possible access to numerous input CAD files… if you pay for the licenses ! -DMU components partial download (better than a whole engine DMU), -Quality of high resolution graphics. Minuses -Difficult to manage large size DMU, -3D animations are not so easy to create, -Large RAM required (4 Gb for a comfortable use), -Impossible to create new textures.

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 AGENDA  Snecma Customer Training Center (CTC) within the Original Engine Manufacturer (OEM) environment  Training quality at Snecma CTC Snecma CTC quality dash board Quality improvement Training material Introduction to the use of Digital Mock-Up (DMU)  DMU within Snecma training courses Examples Pluses / Minuses  Conclusion

CUSTOMER TRAINING CENTER / WATS 2009 CONCLUSION  To use DMU at Snecma CTC … Is not self-sufficient as a teaching medium Must be integrated within a pedagogical structure Improves documentation quality, saves time and money Improves our Customers’ learning efficiency Reduces delivery process in creating new engine courses Allows to train aircraft manufacturers and engine partners on time with the latest engine configuration Have daily updated courses  … improves Customers’ satisfaction Tomorrow, 3D courses on 3D supports
