Vocabulary Climate: The overall state of weather in a region over a long period of time. Climatology: branch of the atmospheric sciences concerned with both the description of climate and the analysis of climatic differences, changes and their practical consequences. Greenhouse Effect: the layer of air near the earth’s surface that retains heat from the sun. Atmosphere: Part of the energy from the sun that is absorbed by the atmosphere. Albedo: The percentage of solar radiation reflected by climate subsystems

Main Ideas 5 Climate Types: Tropical rainy, dry, warm temperature rainy, cold snow forest, and polar. The Temperature: The temperature is affected by latitudes, or where the sun is at one certain time Koeppen classification system: is used to clarify climates Microclimates: a localized climates that differs fro the main regional climate Climates are constantly changing

Experiment Question/Problem: why type at surface makes the most prominent climate? Hypothesis: Lower to the ground the higher temperature. Materials: Meter Sticks, Thermometer, cement, black top and grass. Procedures: Measure temp from different heights and different surfaces. Control: Temperature outside. Controlled variables (constants) Independent variable: The height we measured at and the surface Dependent variable: Temperature

Data Cement 5cm, 28 Degrees Celsius 1m, 30 Degrees Celsius 2m, 28 Degrees Celsius Black top 5cm, 30 Degrees Celsius 1m,28 Degrees Celsius 2m, 29 Degrees Celsius Grass 5cm, 34 Degrees Celsius 1m, 29 Degrees Celsius 2m, 26 Degrees Celsius

Graph

Conclusion The cement and black tops did not change. The Grass Temperature became lower at higher heights.

Quiz Questions How does pollution affect the climate? It damages the earths ozone layer and heats the Earth. What is the Koeppen classification system? It is the system that classifies climates. Why does the climate change? Because the net energy that enters the climate changes over time.

Summary The climate is the physical temperature in all the places of the earth. There are many different types of climate each containing different attributes. The sun is the source of all life on earth and influences all of the different climates.
