Presentation transcript:

Bilingual Dictionaries How to Use Bilingual Dictionaries Bilingual dictionary is an essential tool for second language learners, but using them correctly requires more than just looking up a word in one language and picking the first translation.

1.- 6.- Dictionaries do not list every single word. They list the word: noun, adjective and verb. If you can, ask a native speaker.

5.- 2.- Check. Look up the word in the new language to see what translations it offers in the original language. When you want to look up an expression, there are two possibilities: Look for the first word in the expression. Look for the most important word in the expression.

3.- 4.- Be aware of symbols, symbols also mean something. They can give extra information about the word. Pay attention to the context. It will tell you which word to choose.
