Subway: Meatball Marinara McDonald: Big Mac ALL ABOARD THE SUBWAY TRAIN!

Table of Content 1.What’s the size of one serving? 2.How many calories per serving 3.What is the “calorie ratio” for each food- percentage of carbohydrates, proteins and fats? 4.Which food supplies the most immediate energy? Long term energy? 5.List two benefits for each food. Why is each food beneficial? 6.According to Nutrition Data and our analysis, name what’s non- beneficial about each food. 7.Which of the two foods would you consider healthier and why?

What’s the size of one serving? Serving Size: 287g Serving Size: 216g

How many calories per serving Calories: 530 Calories: 590

What is the “calorie ratio” for each food- percentage of carbohydrates, proteins and fats? Carbohydrate: 32% Fats: 52% Proteins: 16% Carbohydrates: 38% Fats: 44% Protein: 18%

Which food supplies the most immediate energy? Long term energy? The nutrients that most provides energy are Carbohydrates, Fats and Protein. The Big Mac has a higher level of Fats. However the Meatball Marinara has higher level of Carbohydrates and they both have equal amount of protein. But because Carbs are the main providers of energy, the Subway sandwich will provides the most immediate energy

Benefits? The Big Mac 1. High in Calcium which aids in bone and tooth formation and blood clotting 2. High in Protein which helps to build and maintain body tissues. The Meatball Marinara 1. High in Carbohydrades both in fiber and sugars helps to move waste through digestive system, reduce risk of cancer and heart diseases. It is also the main body's fuel. 2. High in sodium which helps maintain water balance, aids in nerves and muscle transmissions

What is non-beneficial? The Big Mac: - The high level of cholesterol could potentially lead to the clogging of the arteries - Has a high level of "bad" carbohydrates The Meatball Marinara: - Though sodium is a benefit, it also has a negative side. This sandwich is high in sodium which leads to high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart diseases.

Is subway really that healthy?

In conclusion, the healthier food is the Meatball Marinara because though the serving size is larger, it still has less calories, fats and cholesterol than the Big Mac. However, we chose the Subway sandwich to prove that though Subway is known to be a healthy place to dine, when we compare one of it's food to a McDonald food, they are closely related. In other words, Subway is just as bad. Which of the two foods would you consider healthier and why?
