Structures & Strategies Basketball Lecture 4

GATHERING DATA GENERAL DATA - observation schedule + - video analysis

Creating an observation schedule 1. List the parts that make up the fast break 2. Performance can be assessed : a) From very effective – ineffective b) 5 pt scale, 1 poor – 5 excellent 3. Identify strengths & weaknesses 4. A relevant improvement and maintenance programme can be designed and carried out. 5. Video gives a permanent record of performance, which can be slowed down and repeated.

… 6. Video allows a more in-depth picture of performance, which results in a more accurate analysis of performance. 7. All of the above can be repeated on completion of the training programme for comparative purposes.

Evidence Gathered Rebound % success Speed of outlet pass Players move to support Number of passes Anticipation of breaking players in filling the lanes Speed of breaking players Success of options taken Time taken for ball to reach opponents basket Scoring Success rate Depth created to prevent counter

IMPROVEMENT PRACTICE unopposed rebound & outlet - Defensive Triangle - Jump high (physical) - Secure ball (technical) - Pivot (technical) - Outlet accuracy (technical) - Guards practice movement as soon as ball is rebounded to several pre- organised positions - Work on speed up the court (physical) - Timing of cut (technical) - Execution of lay-up
