Standard and Essential Question Standard: SS2H1 The student will read about and describe the lives of historical figures in Georgia history. a. Identify the contributions made by these historic figures: James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove (founding of Georgia); Sequoyah (development of a Cherokee alphabet); Jackie Robinson (sports); Martin Luther King, Jr. (civil rights); Jimmy Carter (leadership and human rights). Essential Question: How does the work of Martin Luther King Jr. affect my life today?

Contributions To answer question 15, think over all that you have learned so far about Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and write down why you believe it is so important that we remember his life today. Think about all of the things he accomplished and the way that he accomplished those things when you are coming up with your answer.
