Background Information Born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15 th He was a civil rights activist in 1950 and His father and grandfather was a pastor at a local church. He was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi because of his non-violent protests in India.

What Martin Luther King Jr. did He gave all African Americans the same rights as White Americans. He ended segregation in public schools, protection from police abuse, and preventing discrimination in employment. He gave his “I Have a Dream” speech at the March on Washington to give his opinion about ending segregation in the U.S.A.

Examples of Leadership Qualities He never gave up on giving all African Americans freedom. He was put in jail 30 times for his non-violent protests. He led the Montgomery bus boycott. He led non-violent protests in Birmingham, Alabama. He had great ideas on how to end segregation in America.
