Understanding Images and Comparing Texts Aims: 1. To understand how images can be used to manipulate the reader 2. To revise comparison techniques

Colour Connotation What does this phrase mean? Colours can symbolise or represent an emotion or a mood. Different colours have different meanings. Sometimes these meanings are more obvious than others and sometimes one colour can have multiple interpretations depending upon the context in which it is used. For each of the colours you are going to be shown write down any words or phrases that come into your mind about the colours.

The Media industry fully exploit the use of colour. One section of this industry that relies heavily on colour connotation is the fragrance industry. Why might this be the case? Look at the colours used in this perfume advert. What does this advert suggest about the perfume? On the Jean Paul Gaultier website the perfume is described as: “A fragrance with sensual and ultra-feminine notes…The fragrance of a seductress, an imperious woman with sensual curves.”

What do each of these perfume adverts suggest about: i) the perfume ii) the person who wears the perfume?
