CPS People Strategy Staff Development Talent management and succession Volunteering Mentoring/Shadowing Career development and mapping Targeted programmes for BAME staff that support the Staff Development element of the People Strategy The Anthony Walker Bursary Scheme (AWBS) Positive Pathways Coaching 2 Aiming Higher

A few beneficiaries of Coaching and Mentoring The most positive aspect of the Scholarship was the advice and support I received from my mentor, not just during its duration but in the years subsequently. Nathan Miebai I also have a great mentor. Chris Taylor has been very approachable and involved in my degree, and my work experience Grace Nquot a fulfilling continually revealing and enhancing two way mirror experience. For me the maxim” In learning we teach, and in teaching we will learn.” Sums it all up. Thoroughly enjoyed it and know that it’s a cornerstone on my success on all platforms to date. Shakrat Ali, NBCPA I have had the opportunity to be mentored both formally and informally. Mentoring has given me a much more strategic focus. It helped me to achieve promotion to my current Grade (level 6) and to improve my performance overall in my different roles. Ogheneruona Iguyovwe (Chair NBCPA )

Nathan’s Journey I applied for the Anthony Walker Law Scholarship Scheme as the training programme sounded well tailored to the practical development of an aspiring lawyer, being supportive yet challenging. The scholarship comprised of 3 components 1.Financial support 2.Work experience/community engagement 3.Mentoring Of all of these, mentoring was the key element of the scheme and has been fundamental in aiding my development within the CPS. My mentor Grace Ononiwu has provided tremendous support not just during the duration of the scholarship, but in the years subsequently. Her guidance has extended far beyond what is required to become a “good lawyer”, but has helped me develop as a young man. She has instilled within me:- The importance of always remaining professional How to conduct myself in the workplace The value of networking This is advice that you cannot receive from a textbook or university and underlines why mentoring is so invaluable. Nathan Miebai Legal Trainee & Anthony Walker Scholarship recipient
