 The World Scout Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI) is an international Scout Meeting on the Internet which takes places every year on the third weekend of October. This is an official event of the World Organization of the Scout Movement  During that weekend, thousands of Scouts from all over the world meet and communicate with each other over the Internet, using any technologies locally available, from web browsers to , chat programs, microphones, scanners and digital cameras. Scout groups can combine this event with the Jamboree On The Air (JOTA), an event where Scouts can communicate with each other over radio amateur frequencies with the assistance of a local radio amateur crew. What is Jamboree on the Internet?

 It’s the “new kid on the block” compared to JOTA  JOTI is 18 years old, JOTA is 57!  Held same date as JOTA  Uses computer and internet technology to allow scouts to communicate with other scouts around the world! 3 What is Jamboree on the Internet?

V Most of the communication takes place over and in a chat network called IRC, the Internet Relay Chat. JOTI allows you to build friendships with Scouts in other countries and to find out more about their civil and scouting life. Often, these contacts last for years and build the base for upcoming group trips and enterprises.IRC

V Join in! And meet us... It's fairly easy to participate to JOTI. All you need is one or more computers with internet access.  Line up a district or council location with the JOTI weekend --- October 18/19, 2014  Locate staff members both comfortable and knowledgeable in high technology.  Scouts engage in conversations with other Scouts across the country and around the world.  They get a glimpse of other cultures and regional differences.  Gets them started on Citizenship in the World Merit Badge (requirement 9b, take part in international event)  Scouts get exposed to the technology, fun and magic of amateur radio. What are the Benefits? V Merit Badge Requirements Met by JOTI Participation Participation in JOTI can help meet certain merit badge requirements! Below are some suggestions, but be sure to consult the merit badge counselors for final approval. Citizenship in the World 7.c. Visit with a student or Scout from another country and discuss the typical values, holidays, ethnic foods, and traditions practiced or enjoyed there. 7.e. Event Report V The JOTI Event Report is very important in recording what happened at this event and in working on the next JOTI event. In addition, your report will assist us in submitting the BSA's full report to the World Scout Bureau. Include anything that was funny, interesting, or that you learned, along with your ideas or suggestions to help improve the event. If you forward photos, make sure they are saved using the JPG format so they can be included with the report. Photos of Scouts in uniform would be really great. Please provide anything that would be of interest to others. The information must be received by the BSA National Council no later than November 30. Up to five photographs and newspaper clippings may also be forwarded. We'd like to see your awesome JOTI event!
