OREF AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

2 ADVANCING VISION 2015 New mission, vision and brand launched in Mission: Improving lives by supporting excellence in orthopaedic research. Vision: OREF will be the leader in supporting orthopaedic research to improve function, eliminate pain and restore mobility.

3 Transitioned out of programs that are not mission- driven in order to focus on funding research. Continuing to fund investigator-driven research to support new investigators. Supporting agenda-driven research in stem cell, youth sports injury prevention, infection and hip and knee arthroplasty. Goal is to fund more research each year. To do that, OREF needs to increase donations to Annual Fund. REFOCUSED ON RESEARCH

4 CHANGES TO ENDOWMENT AND DESIGNATED GIVING OREF refocused on raising funds to support grants. Endowment program changes: –New agreements clarify OP ownership of funds. –OPs to issue tax receipts to their donors. –OP will direct investment of its funds. Designated giving changes: –OPs to issue tax receipts to their donors. –Donors will still be able to designate gifts to 54 partner OPs via write-in on donor form, or via website giving page. –OPs will enjoy better cash flow, closer donor relationships. No change to Order of Merit or Shands Circle recognition.

5 AMBASSADOR SUPPORT Staff provides prospective and lapsed donor lists and print materials, brochures, e-updates and website materials. Staff stays in contact with Ambassadors through phone calls and . Materials available online: –Donation form –Preparing for the call –Making the call –Phone script –Frequently asked questions Go to to access.

6 MAKING THE CASE OREF improves lives by supporting excellence in orthopaedic research. OREF Annual Fund contributions are critical to enabling OREF to fulfill its mission. Face-to-face contact to ask friends and colleagues to contribute to the Annual Fund is most effective. Encourage $1,000 to OREF for Sustaining Order of Merit- level; regular Order of Merit for $500+ gift to OREF as part of $1,000 gift split with OPs. Suggest an increase over previous gift.

7 NEXT STEPS TO SECURE GIFTS Make a personal outreach to colleagues—either in- person or by phone. Tell the prospective donor why you support OREF. Explain how all orthopaedic surgeons benefit from research even if they don’t do research. –Breakthroughs in treatment of injury and disease. –Improved patient satisfaction through better outcomes and options. Be enthusiastic!
