Ten Percent The 10% is an Initiative for the usage of electricity, how we can save electricity, save money and how to prevent more Global Warming. The initiative was set up in December 2006 by Mrs. Louise Hayne and was supported by a large number of students and some of the staff. The initiative had many gains and some losses but it saved a lot of electricity and made bills smaller. The Ten Percent helped a lot at student life.

10% Around Hong Kong The 10% has now spread around the whole of Hong Kong. A lot of the primary schools throughout Hong Kong have received their own packs and secondary schools are on the way. 10% has links with CLP (China Light Power) and Hong Kong Electric. In May 2007 people may have heard about a new initiative to provide schools with renewable energy projects. Hong Kong Electric had offered KGV, $100,000 to select schools which applied before the end of the August 2007, and $50,000 for schools which show particular merit.

10% Growing... On April 21 st 2008 the IB coordinator of the British School of New Delia, Christian Chriarenza, visited KGV. She told 10% that she had heard of 10% successes and came to seek advice about setting up a energy saving organization. Christian was very fascinated with 10% and 10%’s business ideas. Present... Future... Presently, 10% has changed it’s goal according to the progress to 20%. Students think it is a goal which has higher chances of remaining unaccomplished. In the future 10% is going to fund some of the money saved for a better student life, and for further money and electricity plans. Some of them include:  Using solar panels on top of the school’s roofs to provide electricity.  Recycle the water coming from showers for the flushes.  The list continues...
