BSc (Hons) Dietetics Accredited by the BDA

A healthcare profession which involves the application of nutrition to groups and individuals and the treatment of disease Requires an understanding of how the science of nutrition can contribute to the health of individuals and communities and to clinical management of disease Dietetics

Highly integrated and focused course Course completed over three years, achieved by extending the academic year (45 weeks/year) Sometimes working across traditional summer vacation, but still get holidays of at least 8 weeks a year The course is delivered using both practical and theoretical elements Shared learning with other allied health professionals/ multi- professional groups Course structure

YrDietetics 1 Preparation for Professional Practice Psychosocial Issues in Health Care Genetics and Nutrition Nutritional Epidemiology Physiology Nutritional Biochemistry Human Nutrition & Food Studies 2 Dietetics 1 (CBL) Dietetics in Practice 1 Applied Epidemiology/Public Health Nutrition Pathophysiology Pharmacology and Dietetics Nutritional Immunology Diet, metabolism and Health 3 Dietetics 2 (CBL) Dietetics in Practice 2 Project Studies 1 Project Studies 2 Public Health Nutrition Management & leadership for inter-professional practice

Three clinical placements in Dietetic Departments integrated into course 3 weeks – introduction 12 weeks – basic Dietetic skills 12 weeks – complex skills Placements likely to be in South West but not guaranteed DoH means tested bursaries for course (incl. travel and accommodation for placements). Students who do not receive a bursary will not receive financial assistance with additional costs of placements. Practice/Clinical Placements

Totality of the application Academic qualifications including Strong GCSE profile: Five grades C and above in one sitting (must include English, Maths and Science) A Levels: A level grades ABB (320 points). Biology and a further science A level required (preferably Chemistry). Must have at least AS Chemistry. Personal Statement References Your application

Non Standard Academic Qualifications Access to higher education, to include a pass of 60 credits overall with a minimum of 45 credits at level 3. Must include 15 credits at level 3 in Biology and 15 credits at level 3 in Chemistry both at distinction. The remaining 15 at level 3 should be at merit or pass. BTEC or Diploma in a science related area. Units must include both Biology and Chemistry Applications from those returning to education are welcome Evidence of academic study in the last five years is required Your application
