SAFETY MEASURES Assistant Doctors – Anish, Sachin, Nitesh, Bharat, Prachi

AIM OF OUR PROJECT As assistants to a team of doctors in the school, we aimed at designing an all purpose first aid box for school

First Aid What is First Aid? –Emergency care given immediately to an injured person. It is a series of simple medical techniques that almost anyone can perform with minimal training and a little first aid information. Why is it important? –In majority of cases, it is a way to minimize injury and future disability. But, in serious cases, first aid may be necessary to keep the victim alive.

Our First Aid Kit On the basis of our observations and interviews with the doctors we were able to design the first aid kit.

Our First Aid Kit Sr. No.First Aid RequirementsUsage 1. Elastic "roller" bandages Are used for a sprain, strain or other muscle or joint injury, these bandages can be used to provide support and compression 2.Adhesive tapeAdhesive tape is an adhesive- coated fastening tape used for temporary /permanent adhesion between objects 3.Alcohol-based hand cleanerFor quick hand wash and to clean the wounds 4.Antibiotic Ointment (Soframycin Ointment is one of our favorites) It helps in healing by keeping out infection and by keeping the wound moist and clean 5.Band aid bandages in assorted sizesTo treat cuts and scrapes

Sr. No.First Aid RequirementsUsage 6.Non-prescription drugs (pain reliever, anti-diarrhea medication, antacid, laxative, activated charcoal) To provide instant relief.* Take under guidance from adults 7.2-inch sterile roller bandages (3 rolls) 3-inch sterile roller bandages (3 rolls) To protect wound from dirt and germs. 8.Iodophores : 4oz bottle or 12 individually wrapped swabs. OR Antiseptic Solution OR Antiseptic Soap Iodophores - These chemicals exert their antiseptic effect by slowly releasing iodine. 9.Burn gelTo treat minor burns 10.Eye wash: 1 small vialTo clean, refresh or soothe eyes 11.2-inch sterile gauze pads (4-6) 4-inch sterile gauze pads (4-6) It cushions and protects wound. They also prevent dryness in an open wound Our First Aid Kit

Sr. No.First Aid RequirementsUsage 12. Thermometer A device used to measure the temperature. Usually taken orally 13.Safety pinsTo tie elastic roller bandages 14.Vinyl based (non-allergic) medical examination gloves (2 pair) For safety 15.Instant-acting chemical cold packsTo reduce the swelling and inflammation of injured body part 16.A pair of blunt-tipped scissors and tweezersTo cut bandages, gauze pads 17.First Aid Kit ManualTo explain different items and its usage

Useful Tips for First Aid Kit Don't forget to restock your kit after you have used an item from your kit! Always keep the kit handy Keep a small first aid kit in your vehicle and in traveling kit Keep only basic first aid kit items and do not turn it into a dump box If you are in doubt about any item in the first aid box, do not try to experiment with it. You may be causing more harm! If you have a ready made first aid kit, be familiar with all items and read instruction manual carefully
