Commissioner for a Day Challenge By Emily Webber, Christine Shires, and Alana Bocarro

The Effects of Media and Advertising Media and advertising definitely have a negative effect on children because:  If a child sees a picture or video of someone famous dressed in short skirts, make up and inappropriate clothing they will think that they will have to dress like that to be ‘cool’, ‘popular’ and ‘famous’.  When children see these dreadful images of celebrities and famous people they feel that they aren’t good enough and change themselves into that exact image. Yes !! Does Media and Advertising have a negative effect on Children and young people??

 If children have grown up looking at these disgraceful images they will act and dress like this.  Media changes children’s body image because if a child sees a celebrity that is skinny, they will change their personality and body image.  Media affects children’s relationships with parents, friends and siblings.  Media also affects personalities and how people think of things.  Media affects our natural beauty because we put too much make-up on and cover our face up with products we don’t need.  Media makes children selfish and greedy.

If we were the Commissioners for a day If we were the Commissioners for a day we would: Stop the whole world from viewing these horrible and inappropriate videos, advertisements and images.

Nicki Minaj  Nicki Minaj is a singer whose songs have very inappropriate lyrics and language for our age group and even older than that!!  Her music videos are offensive and she wears clothes that don’t cover her body enough and some music videos are so bad that you have to be over the age of 18 to view them!!

Lady Gaga  Lady Gaga is an inappropriate singer who wears dreadful clothes and hair such as the revolting meat dress she wore to the Video Music Awards.  The lyrics of her songs are very ear-piercing for the young children and when they grow up they will think they will have to say stuff like that to be ‘awesome’ and ‘spectacular’.

Bratz Dolls  Bratz dolls are unsuitable for young children because they are wearing short skirts and bra tops, have nail polish on, and are even wearing eyeliner and other types of makeup! These improper girls grow up playing with Bratz dolls, so they think they will have to dress like that.

Miley Cyrus  Miley Cyrus started off as a young girl with big dreams and then she got her dream, and threw it down the drain. She was an inspiration to young boys and girls, and then wrecked it all, by going out in night clubs, taking drugs and doing inappropriate things for her age group. to

Barbie Dolls  Barbie dolls are made for little girls to play with. When you buy them they come in short skirts and bra tops.  If young girls have grown up looking and playing with these dolls they will be influenced by them and act and dress like this.

 is a natural beauty but hides it away by putting an overload of make up on.  Her videos and songs contain repulsive language and she doesn’t care that little kids hear it in the lyrics.

Willow Smith  Willow Smith is only 11 years old and she has already released her own album, and has already pierced her tongue.  She has shaved her head bald and dresses and acts like she is an adult.

LMFAO  LMFAO’s name stands for something ear-piercing.  They have released some very inappropriate songs, including ‘Party Rock Anthem’ and ‘I’m Sexy and I Know It’.  In the video clips you have to be over the age of 18 to view them.

Advertising  Advertisements persuade children and young people to buy unnecessary products because if people see a celebrity using the product they will go and buy it, hoping that they will turn out popular, just like the celebrity on the advertisement.  Everything that you see on advertisements are actually fake, for example the Dove Evolution ad.
