What did you do over break? What questions do you have about the sex linked, Multiple alelle problems?

Traits and Alleles What if Elmo and Zoe fell in love, got married and had a baby? What might their baby look like? With your team, come up with a list of as many traits and allele names as possible.

What is Elmo’s Genotype? The Trait: Nose Color Possible Phenotypes: –Pink = Dominant –Orange = Recessive Genotype Key: –P – dominant –p – recessive Orange Nose!

What is Zoe’s Genotype? The Trait: Nose Color Possible Phenotypes: –Pink = Dominant –Orange = Recessive Genotype Key: –P – dominant –p – recessive Pink nose!

Predicting an Outcome What is the probability that Zoe will pass on the allele for a Pink nose? Zoe’s genotype is: Zoe’s heterozygous! Pp 1 P allele out of 2 possible alleles, so ½ or 50% chance that Zoe will pass on the allele for a pink nose.

Predicting an Outcome What is the probability that Elmo will pass on an allele for an orange nose? Elmo’s genotype is: Elmo is homozygous! pp 2 p alleles out of 2 possible alleles, so 2/2 or 100% chance that Elmo will pass on the allele for an orange nose.

Predicting an Outcome Can you predict ALL of the possible nose phenotypes Elmo and Zoe’s baby could have? X ppPp
