If your child took the CogAT… They are automatically eligible for gifted services. And scored in the 97th Percentile or higher in ONE of the three areas. They are eligible to apply for the Comprehensive Gifted Program. And scored in the 97th Percentile or higher in TWO of the three areas. They will undergo a matrix review using Cognitive Abilities Test Outcome(s) and Achievement Data (AIMS, Stanford 10, Benchmarks) to determine whether they qualify for gifted services. My child has been identified as gifted, does he/she need to be retested year after year to remain in the program? No, once identified as gifted in SUSD, students do not need to be reassessed. While students do not need to be reassessed yearly, some families do choose to have their children retested to become eligible for the CGP. Engage, Educate and Empower Every Student, Every Day

Programs for Grades K-2 Grades K-2: Students are clustered in small groups within the regular education classroom with students who are also identified as gifted. Professional assistance is provided to the classroom teacher by the gifted program specialist to help the classroom teacher with providing appropriately challenging curriculum and instruction. What is PACT? PACT is a type of pull-out or push-in replacement or enrichment service provided for all students identified as gifted in elementary grades 3-5/6. All PACT classes are taught by gifted endorsed teachers. Below are characteristics of the curriculum and instruction provided during replacement/enrichment services: Utilization of the Prompts of Depth and Complexity Based on the Arizona Academic Standards Curricular and instructional decisions are based on student readiness and interest Flexible grouping of students, within the PACT classroom is determined by formal and informal methods of formative and summative assessment Integrated or additional enrichment may take place and focus on Independent Study, Thinking Like a Disciplinarian, Learning Centers, Social Emotional, etc.

How frequently do students receive PACT services? Quantitatively Gifted Verbally Gifted Non-Verbally Gifted Students at sites with a full time gifted specialist receive a period of math instruction 5 days per week and two hours of thematic integrated curriculum. Schools sites with a part time gifted specialist receive 1 period per week of math enrichment and 1 period per week of thematic integrated curriculum. The focus of the curriculum and instruction is centered around developing the whole child and their gifted potential. Schools that offer PACT This slide describes for 1.0 teachers how PACT looks (timing) the diagram is a visual to link the areas parents are familiar with as way to show that all are connected and the focus of curriculum and instruction becomes centered on developing the whole child and their gifted potential. Comprehensive (Self-Contained) Gifted Program (CGP) The Comprehensive Gifted Programs have been designed to provide students who possess advanced intellectual, academic and/or creative capabilities with an educational opportunity that reflects interdisciplinary studies, academic rigor and critical and creative thinking. It is the goal of the CGP to provide a comprehensive program that is responsive to the academic and affective needs of the gifted. Applications for the CGP-self-contained program are accepted throughout the school year and may be provided by a site gifted specialist or downloaded from the gifted services website. I am interested in my child participating in the CGP I am interested in my child participating in the CGP. What is the process for applying? The CGP is an application based program. Students who meet the criteria listed below are eligible to apply. Applications may be found in the folder for Comprehensive Gifted Program. Cognitive Abilities: Score in the 97th percentile, or higher, in two or more areas on a state approved test. For tests which elicits only one score or a composite scores, eligible applicants must score 97th percentile or higher. OR Demonstrate an IQ of 130 or higher Advanced Academic Achievement as measured by district or state assessment Strong teacher recommendations as indicated by a two teachers completing and submitting a gifted characteristics profile Applications are reviewed when all parts are received and the application is complete. Parents are notified following the review via phone and email/US Mail

Now that my child is identified as gifted, will he/she have a different teacher? Each school has a gifted specialist who teaches students in grades 3-5/6. They are in addition to the classroom teacher. If your child has been accepted into the CGP their CGP teacher will be their classroom teacher. What can I do to learn more about gifted services in SUSD Attend any parent events offered by the gifted department. Dates of events can be found in the Announcements section of the Gifted Services website.
