● Stalin wanted to kill Ukrainians seeking independence ● Ukraine had been under Russian rule for over 200 years ● Ukrainians named themselves independent and named Kiev their capital city ● Ukrainian national army was fighting the Russian red army Background

● Stalin wanted to get rid of everyone that wanted to be independent from his rule. ● Stalin sent a message by cutting off the food supply with caused a large food shortage ● an estimate of about 7 millions people died due to the food famine ● Stalin eventually cut of Ukraine from receiving resources and due to that in nearly 25% of the population including 3 million children had perished Goal Of Cleansing
