QOW: Should the Chinese government have the power to limit the number of children in a family?

Whoa! We better do something to get the growing population under control!

If the population grows too much, there may not be enough resources, which could lead to war, famine, etc.

7 billion people

Because of these exceptions, the policy seems somewhat reasonable.

If the population grows too much, there may not be enough resources, which could lead to war, famine, etc. The Chinese government still allows minorities, rural families, and only children to have more than one child, so the policy is reasonable

India’s population is growing more quickly, perhaps because India does not have the One Child Policy. The punishments seem too strict!

If the population grows too much, there may not be enough resources, which could lead to war, famine, etc. The Chinese government still allows minorities, rural families, and only children to have more than one child, so the policy is reasonable The Chinese government rewards those who follow the One Child Policy China’s population is growing at a slower rate than India, which does not have the One Child Policy The Chinese government harshly punishes those who do not follow the One Child Policy

If parents can only have one child, many parents would like to have a boy. This is a problem for infant females. This will also be a problem for a males. When they grow up, they may have trouble finding a wife.

If the population grows too much, there may not be enough resources, which could lead to war, famine, etc. The Chinese government still allows minorities, rural families, and only children to have more than one child, so the policy is reasonable The Chinese government rewards those who follow the One Child Policy China’s population is growing at a slower rate than India, which does not have the One Child Policy The Chinese government harshly punishes those who do not follow the One Child Policy There are now more males than females in China Many female infants have been aborted Many female babies have been neglected, abandoned, or killed
