1 : MDM : Introduction M.D.M. Scheme launched in November,1984 by State Govt. G.O.I Supports the scheme from Sep About Govt./Govt. aided primary schools included, covering classes I to VII. Hot cooked meal to lakh Primary school children have been served.[ ] 180 gms of foodgrains/pulses/vegetables/oil etc. per day child giving more than 450 Calorie & gm. Of proteins for Std 1 to 5 & 230 gms Of foodgrains giving 700 Calorie & 20 gm.Of proteins for std VI to VII.[ ] State Govt.’s overall budget Rs crore for Weekly Menu with enough flexibility according to local taste and resources.

4 : Procurement & Supply : Food grains / Cooking Materials The Gujarat State Civil Supply Corporation; an apex agency for supply of Foodgrains and for procurement of edible oil, pulses (dal). Lifting of foodgrains from FCI Godown to District Godown, distributed to taluka Godowns. Supply of Food commodities at District Godown; distributed to taluka Godowns. Six monthly indent based on the requirtment of Tuverdal & Edibal Oils is sent to GSCSC: Periodical release through F.P.S. system upto the MDM centre ensuring regular supply. Monthly review of supply being done at State level.

7 : Implementation & Review (i)State level / Dist. Level /Taluka level committees: working since (ii)Monitoring : by periodically returns & regular inspections of MDM centres. (iii) Routine school visits also cover inspections; short comings noticed are given due follow ups / remedies. (iv)Panchayats and VECs/MTA/PTAs are involved. (v)MDM organiser manages the entire function at MDM centre. (vi)Accountant General conducts regular audits of State & District level offices..

:: 8 :: The State Government is in compliance with the Hon. Supreme Court’s directions, as the scheme will be implemented for more than 200 days during the year. Hon. Supreme Court had directed to provide hot cooked meal with 300 calories for std 1 to 5 and 8 to 12 gms protein.

9. N.G.O. Participation The State Government has initiated participation of NGO in MDM as a pilot project in the eastern part of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and three talukas of Valsad District and entrusted the work to “ Stri Shakti “ in June – 2006.The N.G.O. Stri Shakti coverd childrns in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and children in Valsad District. From June-2007 the work of this scheme in the Wes tern part of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Gandhinagar taluka has been given to the “ Akshay Patra Foundation. “ Its covered 13,670 children in Ahmedabad and 27,000 children in Gandhinagar District.

10. Tithi Bhojan Government of Gujarat has initiated the concept of public participation in the scheme through the concept of “ Tithi Bhojan “. 11. Foodgrains to S.T. Girls The state Government had introduced a new scheme to provide 60kg. of foodgrains per year to the parents of Tribal Girls students studying in primary school in std. – I to VII in tribal areas, subject to minimum 70% presence of student and for maximum two girls students per family. The objective of the scheme are to reduce the dropout rate and to increase attendance of girl students in primary schools in tribal areas.
