ETEC 5300 Educational Technology Foundations By: Jay Crook, Eva Sepulveda, and James Wassmer The Web 2.0 Team Project

Introduction This project will introduce two Web 2.0 applications, FlipSnack and LinkedIn. FlipSnack is an online flipping book software that allows you to convert PDF documents into Flash page flip digital publications. Once created, you can embed your flipping book collection, download them or share them on social networking websites such as Facebook. LinkedIn is a business-related social networking site, mainly used for professional networking and discussions on related issues.

Objectives Upon completion of this Web 2.0 presentation, ETEC 5300 students will be able to: 1. Differentiate between FlipSnack and LinkedIn. 2. List strategic uses for FlipSnack and LinkedIn. 3. Create a FlipSnack account. 4. Develop and share their own FlipSnack flip book. 5. Create a LinkedIn account and join the TAMUCC Masters in Educational Technology group.

What is LinkedIn? Why use LinkedIn? Additional LinkedIn Videos

Summary We can use Web 2.0 applications to share information, create user-centered design, and engage in interaction and collaboration. These applications can create a virtual community for us and our students. We can use it for social networking, blogging, wikis, and video sharing. Web 2.0 becomes a transport mechanism for interactivity and participation. The two Web 2.0 applications we introduced should help you feel more comfortable with this technology and be ready to embrace its use. You have seen how Web 2.0 can be useful in teaching students as demonstrated with FlipSnack and by interacting with fellow educators as demonstrated with LinkedIn.
