Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS) Know how hazardous the material is. (MSDS Sections 3 & 11) Know how to safely handle the material. (Personal protection, fume hood, etc. – MSDS Sections 7 & 8) Know how to dispose of the material. (MSDS Sections 13 & 14) Steve Konezny 6/20/03 Before using a material in 104 : Make sure that the MSDS is on file on 104 computer.

Handling Hazardous Waste Steve Konezny 6/20/03 Wear gloves and other appropriate personal protection (read MSDS for instructions for a specific material). Hazardous waste container should be stored in secondary containment (grey plastic buckets). Attach “Rothberg Group Hazardous Waste” labels to bottle and record material volumes as they are added.

Handling Hazardous Waste Waste should be stored in the fume hood. Whenever using a fume hood, keep the sash as low as possible at all times. Do not mix wastes (i.e. do not mix acids and organic solvents). Do not overfill waste bottles. The bottle is full when the Steve Konezny 6/20/03 bottom of the neck of the bottle is reached. Keep the outside of the bottle clean.

Handling Dry Hazardous Waste  Always wear gloves and a particulate facemask when handling materials and when loading/ cleaning the evaporator.  Please dispose of spilled material and waste properly.  Always keep the surface of the evaporator unit clean and clear of any books, used evaporator materials, etc. except Steve Konezny 6/20/03 for the temporary use of the logbook. This surface is used to fill boats while loading the evaporator. When doing so:  Make sure surface is clear of before transferring material so that hazardous material doesn't get on the logbook.  After transferring material, make sure all spilt material is cleaned up so the place can be temporarily used for the logbook.

Disposing of Hazardous Waste Remove “Rothberg Group Hazardous Waste” label. Make sure the outside of the bottle is clean. Fill out label with the full names of the contents and their percentages/ volumes. Make sure the total amount is filled out correctly. by percentage by volume Steve Konezny 6/20/03

Disposing of Hazardous Waste Transfer properly labeled waste bottles to the stock room using secondary containment (grey plastic buckets). Steve Konezny 6/20/03 Tape side of label to the bottle. Completely fill out additional labels if more that four constituents.
