Additional Facts  Battleship North Carolina memorial is on the Cape Fear River at Wilmington. Visitors may tour the U.S.S Carolina, a famous battleship that took part in every major offensive in World War 2.  Ocracoke Island was a hideout of Blackbeard the pirate, lies about 25 miles (40 kilometers) offshore, Southeast of Pamlico sound. The island was the site of many shipwrecks.  Alamance Battlefield, near Burlington, was the scene of a historic battle shortly before the American Revolution.  North Carolina has 4 national forest; one they share with Virginia called Blue Bridge Parkway.  The NASCAR hall of fame is in North Carolina, it features the famous stock cars of many winners and more.  The colonists in Albemarle county believed their governors were more interested in money than in governing wisely. In 1677, some Albemarle colonists revolted against their governor.  After 1691, governors were appointed to govern the entire Carolina colony with a deputy governor for North Carolina region.  Cherokee Indian Reservation at Cherokee includes a replica of an Indian village as it looked in the 1700’s.  North Carolina supplied the army with the most supplies in the 1900’s.
