BBy 1775 North Carolina was governed as a Royal Colony TThe government of the colony was created through the Fundamental Constitution RRoyal Colonies-New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia AA Royal Colony was ruled by officials appointed by the British crown

 Year founded: 1663 by English colonists  The original name of the colony was the Province of South Carolina, later becoming South Carolina  In 1712 South Carolina separates from North Carolina, they once were combined  In 1729 North Carolina became a royal English colony  The colony became a state in 1788 on May 23

SSome natural resources were fish, forests (for wood), and good land. FFarming and Plantations were important there. SSouth Carolina had the most slave population that worked on plantations TThey exported products to other colonies.

 South Carolina is part of the Southern Colonies.  Located on the coast of North America.  Good soil for crops and farms.  Had many hurricanes because it was close to the Atlantic Ocean.  They had a lot of rainfall due to being on the coast.

 Did not have a specific religion  Freedom of religion soon followed  People who were Baptists and others moved there to worship freely

 The Southern colonies were the warmest of the 3 regions  The winters were not hard on them, so many survived.  Warmer climates helped spread diseases though  The warm climates made it possible to grow crops and was really helpful for plantations

 Exported tobacco, cotton, corn, vegetables, grain, fruit, and livestock  Plantations grew cotton, tobacco, rice, sugar, indigo, and other crops  Some plantations were very big, they had a main house, slave quarters, a dairy, blacksmith’s shop, laundry, smokehouse, and barns which made plantations self-sufficient  Crops were traded for shoes, lace, thread, farm tools, and dishes

 The name Carolina is Latin translated as “Charles”  The state is named in honor of Charles the 4 th of France and then the King Charles the 1 st and Charles the 2 nd of England  In 1670 the estimated population was around 200 people  In 1680 the population was around 1200 people  In 1690 the population increased to 3900! King Charles the 1st
