South Carolina Hospitals Taking The Lead 2

National Recognition Healthcare Executive, March/April 2013

Progress – Public Commitment MUHA leaders attended Inaugural meeting in February and signed our commitment letter.

Progress – Survey Assessment  High Reliability Self-assessment Tool (HRST)  12 Senior Leaders completed the 40 question assessment of the 3 basic building blocks at MUSC in April.  Safety Culture Survey  Survey completed by 2,400 Employees in March. Leadership Safety culture Performance Improvement

Progress - Serious Safety Events Plan to have defined for MUSC and to start reporting by early Fall 2013.

Example

Progress - High Reliability Practices Over 2400 employees have received some level of training. Over 100 projects completed in the past two years with validated savings of over $900,000 through increased quality and reliability.

Progress – Just Culture Co-Sponsored Certification course with SCHA in which 65 hospital leaders from South Carolina, North Carolina and Florida attended. This included 12 individuals from MUSC. Will complete and sustain all leader training by the end of 2013, then all enterprise in 2014.

Summary Over the next 2-3 years MUSC will be taking the lead in making healthcare delivery more reliable in ensuring high quality outcomes 100% of the time.
