Working with Advisors The Ticket to State Success!

Ideas that can Work Whether your state is: Large, Small, or somewhere In-between Or has A Lot of Resources (money, time, energy) or Very Few

their needs Anticipating the information Preparing with them Communicating

Hello! I am the new SkillsUSA advisor for Grayson Tech. I am trying to get things together this week so I can have an informational meeting about SkillsUSA and Fall Leadership next week. I am completely new at this. I want to have a strong chapter and take lots of students to the competitions. Do you have any Promo videos, info, PowerPoints, handouts, etc. that would explain SkillsUSA further to the students and things I could use to get involved. Any info will be helpful. Thanks so much for your time! Actual !

Add teacher to excel file or database & list Introductory Letter Mail Membership Kit Follow Up Steps (New Advisor Recruitment Tracker)

SkillsUSA Advisor Updates “Welcome to SkillsUSA” when membership is submitted

SkillsUSA Update Sent twice a month Mirrors the opportunities listed in the National Executive Update along with state specific information Best communication resource!

Make it Easy for them! Website – automatic “request a Membership Kit” Conferences, school meetings – Teacher Information Form to gather data When they call you – complete the Teacher Information Form on the phone with them.

Use Your Resources Talk to other state directors and find out what has worked for them – they are so willing to share – Minnesota, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Ohio and others have all shared with me.

Moving Forward Find a few ideas that you like and that you can easily incorporate. Make a plan and then work from there. Tweak, re-evaluate as you go.
