Topics to Cover Bad Practice Good Practice Using Tables for Design Googledocs PDF and Acrobat.com Picasa Blogging Tool

Bad Practice Don't overuse big images and especially animated Gifs. Here's a Bad Example,Here's a Bad Example Try to refrain from copying from MS Word, PowerPoint, Publisher or Excel into your web editors. Don't embed images from other sites. Avoid using Marquees!

Bad Practice Check your links regularly to make sure that they have not "died the death" and are broken. Don't use a 'busy' background image. It's hard on the eyes and harder to read.

Bad Practice Don't EMBED music in pages unless you have controls. Give your visitor control over whether on not they want to hear your music. DON'T TYPE EVERYTHING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE IT MAKES THINGS REALLY HARD TO READ AND IN WEB ETIQUETTE IT IS LIKE SHOUTING!!

Bad Practice Don't bold everything because bolding is meant for emphasis. Don't underline ANYTHING, especially colored text. Links are usually underlined. If you underline normal text, your visitors will think it's a link.

Good Practice Content, content, content! In web sites, Content is King! Design and style are secondary. When linking to your uploaded file, it is best to select the "Target" as "New Window". Likewise for external websites. Make sure to re-size your pictures before you upload them to your site.

Good Practice Keep your page length reasonable. Learn some HTML. Sometimes you HAVE to edit the HTML directly. Your website frontpage is your "welcome mat". It is a good idea to change this page regularly to keep it fresh.

Using Table for Design Layout your page first to get an idea of table size, # of rows, and # of columns. Set Table properties – flex or fixed, alignment, etc. Set Cell properties – background, alignment, colors, padding, spacing, etc

Using Googledocs Presentations Newsletters – upload Word version to Googledocs and those who don’t have MS Word can see you newsletter Forms – Information forms, surveys, quizzes.

Acrobat.com Use “Publisher” to create a newsletter. Convert your publication to a PDF. Set up an account at acrobat.com Upload your PDF to acrobat.com Link to or embed the PDF.
