Looking Back… Campus Coalitions, Safe Spaces, and Advocacy Groups 1982 Multicultural Immigrant Student Program (MISP) Center for Latino Policy Research (CLPR) Asian Pacific American Student Development (APASD) Chicana/Latino Student Development (CLSD) Multicultural Community Center (MCC) Center for Race & Gender (CRG) Immigrant Student Issues Coalitions (ISIC) 2007 Rising Immigrant Scholars through Education (RISE)

Recent History to Today… Gestures of Institutional Support on Campus Spring 2009 Chancellor Birgeneau requests the launch of the Chancellor’s Task Force on Undocumented Members of the On-campus Community (now called the “Standing Committee”). Recommendations Report published in May Fall 2011 AB 540 Coalition of campus and community members launched. Coordinated by Multicultural Immigrant Student Program (MISP) Interns. Fall 2011 Undocumented Student Program (USP) launched. Now the program has 3 fulltime staff. USP serves as a central hub/portal for students and campus/community/national partners. Spring 2012 UndocuAlly Training funded and launched. Now offered every semester. UndocuAlly Directory Published on USP website. January 2012 Financial Aid & Scholarships Office ready to offer AB540 students private UC scholarships. Fall 2012 Robert D. Haas Dreamer Resource Center opened as a safe space and resource on campus. Fall 2012 Berkeley Legal Services Program launched to offer free support for students. 103 served in first year.

Recent History to Today (cont’d) … Gestures of Institutional Support on Campus January 2013 Financial Aid & Scholarships Office ready to offer AB540 students other UC scholarships and grants. Spring 2013 Dream Lending Library launched by USP to offer support for cost prohibitive text books. Fall 2013Financial Aid &Scholarships Office ready to offer AB540 students Cal Grants. Fall 2013Financial Aid & Scholarships Office ready to offer AB540 students Director’s Work Study. Fall 2013Chancellor Nicholas Dirks meets with undocumented students at his home. Fall 2013 UC President Janet Napolitano meets with a group of undocumented students from each UC campus. October 2013 UC President Janet Napolitano pledges $5 million in aid to fund programs to support undocumented students at UC campuses. January 2014 UC Office of the President staff currently meeting with UC Berkeley and UCLA USP and UndocuAlly Training teams to bring trainings UC systemwide

Sustainable funding for initiatives including: Financial Aid, including for non-AB540 students Housing and Food Emotional and Physical Healthcare Services Work Opportunities Staff for the UndocuAlly Training Program Staff for undocumented student support services programs Engage with the UC Office of the President’s initiatives to bring support to all the UC Campuses.
