Janet Fish

Janet Fish was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1938 and raised in Bermuda. Her grandfather, Clark Voorhees was an American Impressionist, her father an art history teacher, and her mother, Florence Whistler Fish, a sculptor and potter. Janet Fish knew from a young age that she wanted to be an artist.  After taking many sculpture classes, Janet found her calling through painting.  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Smith College and a Master of Fine Arts degree at Yale University. Fish has shown her work in many major art institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, both in New York, as well as the Art Institute of Chicago, and at many venues around the world.

Artists Style: A realist, Fish is well known for her richly executed still life oil paintings, screenprints, and pastels of glass objects, fruit, and flowers. She also sometimes includes figures and landscapes in her work. Her paintings reflect the effects of sunlight on objects and often contain still life objects from her collections of glassware. Painting Elements: Color, highlights, reflections, transparency and shadows. June, 1999
