GBD Super Regions

Preliminary GBD Expert Group Estimates of Global Number of Persons in 2010 with Blind and Visual Impairment: 33.5 million Blind 199 million MSVI ( ) ( )

Trends The prevalence of blindness and MSVI has decreased in the last 20 years, despite the relative increase in older adults in the world population However, due to population growth, the estimates suggest that absolute blind population has been stable and the population with MSVI has increased.

GBD Blindness Estimates Age-standardized and Total Crude Number Age-stand.ardized Prev.alence Estimated Number blind

Ratio of Blindness to Moderate and Severe Visual Impairment Temporal Trends

Change in Blindness Prevalence from 1990 to 2010 by World Region
