Conclusion Paragraph Restate Thesis Don’t copy/paste Use synonyms Thesis: Atticus is a hero because he stands up for what he believes in, while Janet Vollmer is a hero because she protected her students’ lives. Restatement: A true hero is shown in Atticus because he always does what he thinks is right. Similarly, Janet Vollmer helped save her students during a terrible tragedy.

Conclusion Paragraph Revisit Hook What type of hook did you use? Return to that idea Hook: “Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary”—unknown. Revisit Hook: Like the famous quote says, heroes don’t have to be special; they can simply be normal people doing important things.

Conclusion Paragraph Universal Statement Answer the “so what?” question Why should the reader care? How does topic apply to everyone? Last sentence of conclusion paragraph Example: Everyone can be a hero if he or she is willing to help other people. Extraordinary people can often be found in ordinary situations.

Intro for Janet Vollmer It is difficult to pin down what it truly means to be a hero. The traditional idea of a hero might be a firefighter running into a burning building, but extraordinary people can often be found in seemingly ordinary situations. A person can be a hero in a wide variety of contexts. In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch proves himself as a hero through both his actions and his words. Similarly, Sandy Hook Elementary School teacher Janet Vollmer put herself in harm’s way to protect her students. While Atticus Finch is a hero because _________________________, Janet Vollmer is a hero because ____________________________.
