Effective boards have a shared vision that includes perspectives of all board members. 2

1) clarify their individual vision, values and passion; 2) listen to and hear fellow board members to understand their vision, values and passion; 3) identify common ground and shared understanding. 3

1) Provide a tool which enhances a Board’s Self Evaluation Process 2) Help board members generate deep conversations leading to:  Shared understanding  Improved board working relationships  Establishment of individual and collective board goals for improvement. 4

 IS a supplement to WSSDA’s Individual School Director Standards;  IS a tool for generating conversation;  IS an opportunity to find common ground through deep discussion;  IS NOT simply a checklist;  IS NOT complete—it’s a template for your board to tailor to your needs. 5

 10 minutes - Individual Reflection  25 minutes –Discussion in small group  10 minutes – Sharing out to larger group  5 minutes – Session Wrap-up/Questions 6

 Each table will be working on One Standard of WSSDA Individual School Director Standards ◦ 1 – Values and Ethical Behavior ◦ 2 – Leadership ◦ 3 – Communication ◦ 4 – Professional Development ◦ 5 - Accountability 7

 What do we have in common?  Where do we differ?  Shared vision – Identify “hot spots” that require further discussion and/or common goals to pursue. 8
