UNESCO Web Administrators Group Why the UNESCO BROWSER? Need for common layout, navigation and ergonomic principles arose from series of user tests on the UNESCO portal and a WebWorld evaluation performed in early 2004 User tests emphasized that some basic functions (such as navigation blocks, printing, home button to name a few) differed from site to site. These differences prevented users from learning how to navigate and easily find content. Remarks/demands from users : - Theme-based browsing - Common navigation principles across sectors/themes - Ability to search - Strengthen portal’s usability - Improve accessibility (especially for users with disabilities) - Multilingualism

UNESCO Web Administrators Group What is the UNESCO BROWSER? A blueprint for websites inside the UNESCO portal. A model or template to be followed by project managers, web administrators and graphic designers who develop websites for the UNESCO portal. A compilation of layout guidelines, editorial principles and technical rules that provide a structure while adhering to a logical common framework. A mean of achieving ‘Accessibility for All’ on UNESCO Portal

UNESCO Browser is a living document to be updated twice a year to respond to changes and needs by Committee (WG) The date of December 15th has been set for preparing draft Administrative Circular for DDG review FOs/Institutes to contribute to UNESCO Browser, input to be integrated in next six-month review of document In absence of validated graphical chart for the Organization, the UNESCO block logo as developed by (Pilot Corporate) will be integrated in the UB, should this block be reviewed, it will be revised in UB. Glossary needs to be expanded and Label to be translated in AR, RU, ZH Complete Implementation by June 2005 Common graphical elements (topbar tabs, icons) to be designed and approved (CI pilot)
