What makes us a Green School We got our first green flag for waste management We got this flag in 2005 We had to show that our school reduces, reuses and recycles

What do we recycle? In our green bins we can put: Paper Plastic bottles Card Milk Cartons Cans

What can we compost Pencil parings Raw fruit and vegetable waste Tea bags

What else do we recycle Batteries Mobile phones Phone chargers Ink cartridges Old clothes Toys and books at the jumble sale

We are still collecting phones for the Jack and Jill foundation

We collected 500 phones for the Jack and Jill foundation and got a free interactive whiteboard in return. We are now collecting for another whiteboard. Keep bringing them in please!

How we can reduce and reuse Use the two sides of a piece of paper Use a lunchbox Use your water bottle again If your clothes don’t fit you, give the clothes to your younger brother or sister

Ways to save energy Don’t leave machinery on standby Take out plugs at night Last out turn off lights Walk or cycle to school Carpool or use public transport

Second green flag We got our second green flag in 2007 We got this flag for saving energy We found many ways to make our school energy efficient

Third green flag Last year we got our third green flag We got this for cutting down on using water We also need to continue on the great job the school is doing with waste and energy

The recycling bin The recycling bin is between the senior yard and the car park It is for cardboard, cans, cartons, plastic bottles and paper

Ms. Holmes/Bn Uí Mhuirí will take old cartridges and phones. There are collection boxes throughout the school

We will keep you up to date Sarah Fitzgerald from An Taisce came in to do a survey on how we get to and from school. 23% Cycle 2% Bus 40% Car 35% Walk

For our 4 th green flag we are trying to make more kids and teachers walk, cycle and carpool to and from school. An Taisce are helping us on our way. We hope to launch our BoW WoW campaign in the Spring.

BoW means bike on Wednesday. WoW means walk on Wednesday. An Taisce have provided us with two bike shelters. Up to 60 people are cycling to school everyday.
