Problems of a Contracting population in the developed world Low BR and DR with high life expectancy will result in an increasing aging population. Dependency will be high. With a low BR, there will be a smaller workforce. Taxes will increase in order to pay for pensions, National Health Care (older people more likely to suffer from poor health), home helps and nursing homes (senility more common). “only children” may be more common. They may have dufficulty in coping with aging parents both financially and emotionally. Initially with a contracting population schools and hospitals will close with resulting unemployment. In time a smaller workforce could create problems for industry;  Fewer skilled workers  Fewer unskilled workers  Fewer managers  Fewer scientists (less research).
