Combined Honours Sheffield Flexible Programmes Stand Out From The Crowd

Dual Honours Combined Honours – Triple With An Individualised Degree. What is it? Why should I consider it? How many students do it? Are the programmes flexible? How is it taught?

Features of Dual Honours and Combined Honours - Triple With An Individualised Degree. The modules you take are shared with those pursuing ‘single’ honours degrees Core modules are identified, optional or ‘approved’ modules are chosen by you For most subjects, there is flexibility in the weighting of subjects in your degree You are classified under the same regulations as those for ‘single’ honours

More work? With An Individualised Degree. Duals and Combined Honours students take the same number of credits as single honours students They just take a fewer number in each subject area It is not more academic work, although you may need to be slightly more organised

The key advantages With An Individualised Degree. Offers academic challenge and interest Will stand out to employers Gives a wider range of skills and experience and opportunities Will stretch you intellectually and push you to achieve more

Support and Structure With An Individualised Degree. Challenge is not from workload or negotiating the programme Experienced staff and interdisciplinary perspectives What will employers want in a decade? Keep your options and skills extended

New for 2015 Entry With An Individualised Degree. Greater flexibility for most Dual Honours programmes All Arts and Humanities and Sociology After the first year, with academic guidance, you can choose to study more of one subject than another for the rest of the programme ( ⅔ : ⅓ ) You can choose to remain on the Dual Honours programme

New for 2015 Entry With An Individualised Degree. Exceptional students may also be interested in our new Combined Honours – Triple Y001 degree Three Arts and Humanities subjects over the three years – or flexible options after the first year

Modes of Teaching With An Individualised Degree. Dual and Combined Honours students take the same number of modules as in a single honours programme Lectures, Seminars, Practical sessions Dissertation/Final Year Projects Study Year Abroad – included in language, optional for other programmes Core modules ensure a solid skills background – but more subjects mean more skills Wider experience and more to put on a CV

How many students? With An Individualised Degree. Across the University, there are over 1300 undergraduate Dual Honours students There are over 90 Dual Honours programmes There is an Interdisciplinary Programmes Office to support those students in Arts and Humanities

After Graduation * /11 With An Individualised Degree. Data from Graduate Employment Market Statistics, 2013 * Data taken at six months after graduation,

Postgraduate Study With An Individualised Degree. PGCE/Teacher Training – if you keep your degree at 50:50 you will have two specialist subjects Accountancy Law Masters of Business Administration (MBA) Discipline or Interdisciplinary study

Check your programme With An Individualised Degree. Check the details of the programme carefully and look at individual module content if necessary Sometimes titles of programmes can be misleading If you are interested in a particular area of study, check the research interests of the academic staff, via the webpages Don’t be afraid to ask questions throughout the process – it shows initiative

Applying to Combined Honours With An Individualised Degree. Dual Honours - Via UCAS – as per a single honours If you are interested in the Combined Honours – Triple degree the code is Y001 Personal Statements – most universities will accept a supplementary personal statement if you contact them directly – it is usually NOT REQUIRED

Why Combined Honours? With An Individualised Degree. You can tailor your degree It will stand out to employers A wider range of skills and experience Demonstrated flexibility and competence “By taking a dual honours degree, I've had the freedom to tailor my course in a way that perfectly suits me. Instead of picking between two subjects that I love, I've been able to study my favourite areas of each - I've enjoyed it so much!”
