What is our world today? Amanda Goodger MBCI MSc MBA BSc(QTS)

Why is this more than traditional information thinking? Are we going down an evolutionary dead- end? Are we the only people in the know? Are we at the church of cryptography… Are we….

This is the traditional IA Landscape – what does it not show? National Security Critical National Infrastructure Wider Public Sector UK Economy/ Society

Does this reveal any more… Wealth Consumption Wealth Creation National Security Critical National Infrastructure Wider Public Sector UK Economy/Society Knowledge/ Information/ Data Highly Sensitive Privacy

What else have you heard? The current thinking is dead! There is a huge variety of situations out there… Silo’d World… e.g. in the Security World - basics are still not followed… e.g. awareness training… Control centric universe…

Where actually are we? Information centric existence… Different geopolitical picture… ‘Internet of Things’… ‘Consumerisation’ of IT or ICT (whichever is preferred?) Total 21 st century reliance… So what?

Internet of Things…

Panarchy… yes ecology other disciplines… integrated way… Gunderson L and Holling C S,(2001), Panarchy: Understanding Transformations in Systems of Humans and Nature

What levels are we dealing…

Panarchy examples…

Ecosystems… cycles!

So why relevant to cyber- security? This is today’s world… 21 st century one… Is this a turning point? Is it a tipping point? Are we at a precipice… Variety…. Complex system multiplier! NO!!!! We traverse to the bridge & beyond…

What is Cyber-sûréte concept? Cyber-sûréte which is seen as ‘combining both the trusts necessary for assurance and the controls and rules for safety’. This is an important distinction to Cyber- security. As significantly, Cyber-sûréte enables both a safe-to-fail ecology (in which learning and testing can take place – and so adaptation) with a fail-safe existential control environment (as in a nuclear power plant).

Internet of Things…

Information Lodestone… possibly… The Theory of the Integration of Everything!

What is the Information Lodestone? Understanding… Protecting… Sustaining… Nurturing… Information Economy and Society in the 21 st century – Cyber- Sûréte …

Why has the Lodestone Expanded? Physical Infrastructure Economic Societal Virtual/Cognitive… Bottom-Up… Or actually 720 deg…

Why has the Lodestone Expanded into a 3 rd dimension? Horizon Scanning Future Forecasting Focused Observation & Timely Insight Current Reality Linear/Non-Linear Or actually 720 deg…

Is the Lodestone actually 720 o ? Information Lodestone Concept and Model of Operation – Strands through an information ecosystem Bottom-Up… Or actually 720 deg…

Is the Lodestone working in 720 o ? Applying integrated thinking to a strand across several aspects and forecast groupings…

Where do we go next? The framework & concept to be written up… Common Initiative… on what is actually out there… Full In-Lode Ltd is operational… Future is just that… dynamic, organic & emergent world… 21 st century journey for all…

Conclusion… The introduction of concepts for the Information Lodestone and the Information Keystone. Consideration of Cyber-Sûréte as opposed to Cyber- Security; the Cyber-scape as opposed to Cyber-space; the Interspace as well as the Battlespace. Variety as a necessary system multiplier in complex ecologies; necessary to both influence and control. Trust as the obverse of Risk, set within wider more inclusive concepts. The future is likely to be uncertain; unstable; ubiquitous and unpredictable (the four Us).
