MCHS CHEERLEADING TRYOUT AND GENERAL SQUAD INFORMATION

Eligibility Requirements Grade Requirements : Grade requirements for cheerleaders will follow the same guidelines as required by TSSAA for other athletes Attendance Requirements : Candidates must have acceptable attendance records without a history of unexcused absences. Discipline Requirements : Students with three (3) or more infractions in the current school year that required disciplinary action by the school administration will need to meet with MCHS administration and coach to determine eligibility to try out. Expenses Parents must commit to paying the costs involved for their child to become a cheerleader.

Trying Out Only those students who meet the eligibility requirements above will be allowed to tryout for cheerleader. Independent judges will be provided from colleges or cheerleading associations. There will be three judges with a minimum of one minority. Judges must have no local connections.

Trying Out, cont. Judges will be provided a scoring sheet (attached) for each student. These must be marked in ink and signed by the judge. Scores will be tallied under the principal’s direction. Students with the highest total scores will fill the spaces available on the cheerleading squad. All score sheets and tally sheets will be kept in a file in the principal’s office.(attached) The principal is responsible for overseeing the tryouts, the calculations, and announcing the winners immediately following the tryouts.

Trying out, cont. In case of a tie, those students who are tied for a place on the squad will be asked to perform another cheer and will be ranked again by the same judges.
