Clausewitz VS Sun Tzu Nasim Ibrahim i36022

Clausewitz and Sun Tzu -Prussia and China vs 2000 years ago - war is the main concept for both of them - similarities and differences - Military general and theorist VS military general, philosopher and strategist

Similarities Can you see any similarities? War

Clausewitz Sun Tzu War is a changing phenomenon War is not only a true chameleon, because it changes its nature slightly in each concrete case, but it is also, in its overall appearance, in relation to its inherent tendencies, a wondrous trinity. (Clausewitz, 2007, p.30). And as water has no constant form, there are in war no constant conditions. (Sun Tzu, 1986, p.22)

Differences Can you see any Differences? “The Art of” and “On”

Sun Tzu strategies, tactics, diplomacy, and intelligence on how to win a war 01.01] Warfare is important to a nation. It is a matter of life and death. It is the way to survival or to destruction. So study it. [01.02] Study the five factors of warfare: Way, Heaven, Ground, General, and Law. Calculate your strength in each and compare them to your enemy's strengths.

Clausewitz What is war? Essence of war? How it happens? Why it happens?... “The definition of war is nothing but a duel on an extensive scale” “War is an extension of politics by other means”

Contemporary security issues and war

Defense and offense State war: strategic offense and tactical defense Small war: tactical offense and strategic defense Contemporary security issues Active Defense “Within the theatre of war which we have decided to defend, we can attack the enemy where and how it pleases us. There we have all the means completely to destroy the enemy army, just as in any offence. Indeed, in our own theatre of war, this is much easier for us than for our enemy” (Daase in Strachan, 2007, p.189).
