A Long Way Gone By: Ishmael Beah

About Ishmael  Born November 23, 1980  Victim of a civil war in Sierra Leone  Became a child soldier at the age of 13  Rescued by UNICEF and deprogrammed  Left Sierra Leone in 1997 to come to New York.  He attended high school and got a college degree from Oberlin College in 2004 in Political Science  He returned home in 2009 with an ABC News crew to talk about his country and experiences.  He works as an advocate for children worldwide through UNICEF now.
