Asia’s Classical age The Rulers By William Henry Bray

Chandragupta Maurya Chandragupta Maurya united nearly all of northern India, Afghanistan, and parts of central Asia into the Maurya Empire. He also improved agriculture, and made weights and measures standard. Chandragupta also ruled in a strict manner. He forced some people to work as slaves and demanded high taxes witch made him enemies in the empire.

Ashoka Ashoka became emperor in 274 B.C. In 262 B.C Ashoka ordered his army to attack the kingdom of Kalinga. About 100,000 people died that day. The high number of deaths made ashoka regent having gone to war. During the rest of his rule he helped make the lives of his people better. He then spread the idea of nonviolence throughout his Empire

Shi Huangdi To Govern his empire, Shi Huangdi depended on a way of government now known as legalism. Following the ideas of legalism, Shi Huangdi ruled the Chinese people harshly. His rule, however, brought important changes to China. In uniting China, Shi Huangdi ended the power of the nobles and formed a strong central government.
