Wednesday Jan. 23 – Thursday Jan. 24

Wednesday Jan. 23, 2013 Students will need to report to school no later than 5:30. We plan to leave 6 am. Between 5:30 – 6 am. Students luggage will be checked and students will be given their bus assignments and will get settled in. Students will check in the cell phones with their designated staff member. We will have a rest stop on the way to Charleston, students are asked to bring a long a small morning snack to have at this time.

Cell Phone Policy Based on suggestions made by parents and CMS policy, we have developed the following policy regarding cell phone use while we are in Charleston. Students will check their phones in with an assigned staff member prior to departing for the trip. Once we arrive in Charleston, students will have the option of briefly checking their phones back out to contact parents to let them know we have arrived. Students will check the phones back in with their staff member prior to attending their designated activity. Staff members will hold onto the phones until after the dinner cruise. This will prevent the possibility of losing it on excursions and inappropriate use during activities. After the dinner cruise, and before lights out, students will be allowed to call their parents. At light’s out, phones will be collected again. Phones will remain with the staff members until we get close to Charlotte which is when the students will be given back their phones and allowed to call parents for pick-up details. Through this policy it is our intention to keep all students focused on the activities planned for them. We understand communication is a priority to you and we hope our designated times will help assure you that you will have the chance to talk to your child, while also minimizing the distractions a cell phone can provide.

Disclaimer Any personal property lost, stolen, or damaged while on the trip is not the responsibility of Crestdale Middle School or Mann Travel We want to encourage students to take pictures and enjoy their experiences, but we highly encourage them to use alternative sources for pictures, such as disposable cameras. For the safety of all students and adults involved with this trip, we will do a luggage check prior to leaving. Any banned substances / materials found will be confiscated, and the student will not be allowed to attend the trip. Refunds will not be given if this occurs..

Packing: students will only be allowed to bring one standard size piece of luggage. Students should wear warm attire when on the EcoTour portion of the trip. Please consult the weather predictions for the week when packing. Student meeting: We will hold a student meeting on Monday Feb. 14, 2011 during school hours. At this meeting we will specifically to the students about the trip’s behavior expectations and other logistical considerations.

Supervision At an earlier meeting, concerns were raised regarding proper supervision. We are extremely happy to say that thanks to all of our parent volunteer chaperones. We will have an adult stationed between every room at the hotel, and … Group 1 (Busses 1 & 2) will have 18 parent chaperones and 6 school staff members. Group 2 ( Busses 3 & 4) will have 16 parent chaperones and 6 school staff members.
