VAVRS The Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (VAVRS) – 501C3 Non-profit Organization – Organized in 1935 in Roanoke, Virginia – Approximately 325 volunteer EMS agencies, rescue squads, fire departments and specialty related agencies – Over 18,000 members

VAVRS Types of Membership – Unit Membership – Associate Unit Membership – Individual Membership – Associate Membership – Sustaining Membership

VAVRS Benefits of being a VAVRS Member – Training at YOUR agency. – Social networking to share and trade ideas. – A legislative committee that champions the cause of EMS during the General Assembly. – The VAVRS Death Benefits Plan. – Annual Convention. – District Meetings. – Competitions.

VAVRS Mission Statement “The VAVRS shall promote and assist member rescue squads in improving pre-hospital care in Virginia.”

VAVRS VAVRS shall help its members improve pre- hospital care by: – Providing training to its members. – Improving communications and liaisons between agencies. – Promoting legislation beneficial to pre-hospital providers. – Providing management and assistance services. – Promoting and recognizing pre-hospital providers.

VAVRS VAVRS currently offers certifications in 16 classes. – Basic and Light Duty Rescue Technician Level 1 – Basic Rescue Technician – Basic Rescue Technician II – Cave Rescue – Emergency Vehicle Operator – Farm Machinery Extrication – Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness – HTR School Bus Rescue – Infectious Disease Control – Search and Rescue – Introduction to Swift Water Rescue – Swift Water Rescue – Vehicle Rescue Awareness – Vehicle Rescue Awareness and Operations – Vertical Rescue (Rescue Tech Level II) – Advanced Vertical Rescue (Rescue Tech Level III)

VAVRS Classes are also available for certification in: – Patient Handling – Patient Care Documentation – Developing and implementing SOPs/SOGs

VAVRS The Association also facilitates classes in: – ALS and BLS Continuing Education Credit Hours – Emergency Medical Technician – EMS Leadership – PADI Advanced Open Water Diver – PADI Search and Rescue Diver – Confined Space Rescue

VAVRS The VAVRS has partnered with the Department of Fire Programs and the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services to offer cross certification for all participants for EVOC and Vehicle Rescue classes.

VAVRS Promoting Communications – The VIRGINIA LIFELINE (Bi-monthly publication) – – Website – District Meetings (held regionally) – Convention (Last week of each September) – Spring Board of Governor’s Meeting (April) – (VAVRS toll free) – State Office and Training Center in Oilville, Virginia

VAVRS Special Events – Rescue College The 36th Annual State Rescue College will be held June , 2011 at The Inn at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. Rescue College offers VAVRS courses at both the basic and instructor level.

VAVRS Special Events – Convention The 77th Annual VAVRS Convention will be held September , Virginia Beach – Medical Seminars – Competitions – Educational and social activities – One of the largest EMS product shows on the east coast » EMS related equipment and supplies » Vehicles » Clothing

VAVRS Special Events – Spring BOG Meeting Semi-annual business meetings at which each member squad has one vote. The Spring Board of Governors Meeting will be held April 2, 2011 in Charlottesville.

AVAVRS Auxiliary to the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads, Inc. – Auxiliaries are originated to assist and support their local squads. – The AVAVRS has 6 district throughout the state. Each district elects it own officers and hold district meetings. – The AVAVRS raises in excess of $700,000 per year for their senior organizations.

VAJVRS Virginia Association of Junior Volunteer Rescue Squads, Inc. – The VAJVRS is the youth division of the VAVRS. – The VAVRS believes junior squads to be the future of pre- hospital care. – The Junior Association hold many competitions and social events for it members. – Junior District Meetings are at the same time and location as the Senior District Meeting.
