The Bubble Dress is made up of two layers, the inner layer contains biometric sensors that picks up a person’s emotions. Then projects them in colors onto the second layer, the outer textile. Biometrics _ refers to the identification of humans by their characteristics or traits. Biometrics are used in computer science as a form of identification and access control. Also used to identify individuals in groups that are under surveillance.

“The Design group at Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands gives it a shot and takes a look into the far future of fashion in their SKIN project, an exploration research into the area known as ‘emotional sensing” “You could program the material so that it will turn red when you are angry or stressed, or green when you're calm," The dress isn't just reflecting body temperature. It's measuring heart rate and other metabolic functions associated with stress, arousal and other emotions.”. 0F7/Mood-Dress.htm

Remember those color-changing T-shirts in the late 1980s? The fibers in the shirts were bonded with microcapsules of thermo chromic pigment which changed hue when it was exposed to heat. The main idea was that friends could leave their handprints on you. In practice, however, wearers usually just ended up with different-colored underarms.
