Geographical descriptions Learning context: Next step: mapskills Progress Step 3 To be able to draw an anootated field sketch of the urban landscape around Passmores Success I can draw the horizon and some foreground detail of the view from Passmores school field ……with an appropriate title to locate my sketch …and can add relevant labels to explain the detail in my sketch Progress Step 2 To be able draw a field sketch form a photograph Success With teacher guidance I can identify the broad lines of the Corfe Castle photograph …….and can add detail to the landscape …………and add the suggested labels appropriately to explain the sketch Progress Step 1 To be able to describe the steps in drawing a field sketch Success I have watched the tutorial on how do draw a field sketch ……and know some of the stages of drawing one …….and I can put these into a logical order of my choosing Prior Learning: Geographical descriptions

Making a field sketch You don’t have to: Be an artist Produce a masterpiece or work of art You do have to: Produce a simple outline drawing or summary diagram Allow enough time to make a sketch Keep work neat & tidy

Stages in drawing a field sketch 1. Choose the view you wish to record

2. Choose a scale & draw lines to divide your page

3. Draw in the skyline & foreground in your field of view

4. Draw in lines showing the main structural & geological features

5. Draw in features such as changes in slope, vegetation & rock type 5. Draw in features such as changes in slope, vegetation & rock type. Hint: Leave out details of minor features – best recorded in smaller sketches highlighting details.

6. Add labels
