IIFREEE 2014 for MENA – AMMAN, JORDAN ORC-Based Heat Recovery System for Energy Efficient Industries By: Dr. Salih Manasra CEO
MOTIVATION 2 Wide range of industries such as: Chemicals Petrochemicals Cement Glass Food & Beverage Paper Metal generate tremendous amount of heat throughout there production process … Yet, this can be a great source for on-site power generation → Heat Recovery System (HRS)
ORC – ORGANIC RANKINE CYCLE - HRS 3 1) Hot water (thermal oil) enters the evaporator to heat the ORC system working fluid (organic fluid). 2) High-pressure, hot, vaporized working fluid (organic fluid) then enters the power module and drives a turbine to produce electrical power. 3) Low-pressure, expanded vapor cycles through a condenser where it is cooled by cooling water and condensed into liquid form while heating up the cooling water 4) The cooled liquid is then sent to the pump, boosted in pressure and sent back to the evaporator to repeat the cycle.
ORC – ORGANIC RANKINE CYCLE - HRS 4 Heat Source Industrial Waste Heat Waste Heat of an Exhaust of a Generator or Boiler Solar Thermal Energy (Heat) Geothermal Heat
ORC – COMMERCIAL SYSTEMS 5 ORC-CHP Low Temperature (LT) 90° < T < 150° Size < 500KWe Thermo-Electric Efficiency 10-17% High Temperature (HT) 220° < T < 320° Size < 5 MWe Thermo-Electric Efficiency 19-25% YAFA ENERGY is developing Low-Pressure vapor recovery into power to increase system efficiency Cogeneration Efficiency ~ 95%
ORC – COMMERCIAL SYSTEMS 6 Basic System Features 7500 Continuous Working hrs Containerized System Easy to install Life time: 20 years+ Maintenance costs: 0.1-1¢ / KWh System cost: Euros/KWe Modular System 24/7/356 Remote Control & Monitoring Hundreds of commercial installations
