Average Cost for Mending & Alterations Shorten trousers--$7.00/pair adults $4.00/pair children's Let down hem/lengthen garment--trousers priced same as above. Narrow skirt $8.00, full skirt $3.00 per foot of hem. Shorten sleeves--$15.00/shirt with cuffs & button plackets. $5.00/shirt without cuffs. Replace buttons $1.00 per button. If buttons are lost entirely, the cost of new buttons should be added. Tear in seamline--$1.00/inch. Darning starts at $3.00 per hole for small holes, hourly rates of $12.00 per hour for particularly large or numerous holes. Beginners can charge $10-15 per hour/ Experienced $35-40
